Summer Associates

For John Turlais, being involved with Foley's summer program influenced his decision to join the firm

Foley’s summer program provided exactly the type of experience that I had hoped for as a summer associate. The electronic project book allowed me to select interesting and challenging assignments from various legal departments and gave me the opportunity to work with a wide range of attorneys and clients.

[With] group outings, the softball team, and other planned (and unplanned) events, there certainly was no shortage of opportunities for me to get to know better the other summer associates, the attorneys, and the city.

The summer associate program is a highlight of our year — our chance to share with you what we love about Foley. Our hope is that by summer’s end, you’ll have a solid understanding of what life as a Foley associate is like and reach the same conclusion as many others like you: Foley is a great place to launch your legal career.

Competitive Salaries and Benefits:

Cutting-Edge Technology: Not only is Foley a leading innovator in providing legal and related business services, but it also is an award-winning technology trendsetter, supplying cutting-edge connectivity between our attorneys and clients. We are exceedingly proud of our thriving technology group, which has earned the firm accolades from industry experts. All of our attorneys and staff are trained in the effective use of computers and technology, which are thoroughly integrated into the day-to-day workings of the firm.

Training: One of the firm’s primary objectives is to ensure that our associates are guided in areas that are important to their career development. To accomplish this, the firm’s Professional Development Department is committed to providing fundamental “hands-on” experiences and skills training programs. Summer associates are key members of this process. Indeed, we have designed a series of training programs addressing the specific needs and issues facing summer associates, including Time Keeping & Billing, Legal Research & Writing, Basic Business Etiquette, and Law Firm Finances. We also offer training programs covering each of our four core legal departments.

Social Events: We know when you are choosing a law firm a major factor in your decision is the city in which you will practice. We give you plenty of opportunity to explore artistic, cultural, sporting, and ethnic festivals in our cities, so you’ll know what life is like both inside and outside our firm.

Feedback: We know you want to put your best foot forward and we want to help you achieve that goal. That’s why our partners and associates provide continuous feedback to our summer associates on their work product and we provide formal reviews both mid-way through and at the end of the summer.
